Our Impact

Take a look at a few of the ways we’re turning education into action.

Advancing Brave Ideas

The importance of what President Lincoln accomplished in this space inspired us to develop the Cottage as a Museum of Ideas rather than a traditional historic house museum. Every day, our tours and programs help visitors engage in courageous thinking, respectful dialogue, and thoughtful compromise. We are committed to being a Home for Brave Ideas.

Why We Exist

We strive to highlight the true Abraham Lincoln and to continue the fight for freedom in every arena. Through innovative guided tours, exhibits, and programs, we use Lincoln’s example to inspire visitors to take their own path to greatness and preserve this place as an authentic, tangible connection to the past and a beacon of hope for all who take up Lincoln’s unfinished work.

We make a difference by offering the very place President Lincoln made nation-changing decisions to the public so that they, too, can change the world.

I love working at the Cottage because I get to support incredible work being done to keep Lincoln’s legacy of brave ideas alive. But, I also get to work with wonderfully dedicated, thoughtful, creative, and smart colleagues who share a passion for this special place.

Working at the Cottage afforded me the opportunity to grow and learn new skills, while being connected directly to a place that has so much meaning for where our country is today.

– A Cottage staff member

Working at President Lincoln’s Cottage has given me the opportunity to work at a historical place that takes that history and makes it relevant-not just in how we interpret the story, but in how we use that story to shape our work in the present. It has allowed me to be a part of meaningful, ground-breaking work.
