A Scenic Setting for Your Special Day

Built in 1842, this Gothic Revival-style mansion was a treasured sanctuary for President Abraham Lincoln and his family from 1862 to 1864. He spent a quarter of his presidency in residence here and made momentous decisions that defined his presidency—including drafting the Emancipation Proclamation.

This inspiring home features handsome original woodwork, marble fireplaces, an inviting veranda, and expansive green lawns bordered by impressive trees, including a large Osage orange and magnolia. Our spaces can easily accommodate intimate nuptials as well as large receptions.

All event packages include:

  • A personal and tailored experience, with just one rental event scheduled per day
  • The convenience of an in-town venue (just four miles from the White House) with the scenery and nature present on the private 250-acre Solders’ Home campus
  • Ample free parking for vendors and guests
  • On-site museum staff for cocktail hour
  • Extended hours in our museum so guests can enjoy our exhibits
  • Use of the bandstand, lawns, and other outdoor spaces
  • Use of the beautifully decorated Mary Room as a getting ready space for weddings
  • One-hour ceremony rehearsal for weddings

Our spaces are ADA accessible. Rental blocks include setup and breakdown time—in most cases resulting in two hours of setup and one hour of breakdown. The Robert H. Smith Visitor Education Center and exhibits remain open for guests to enjoy at their leisure.

It was really special to get to introduce so many people to this beautiful, tranquil space right in our city.

…Being in the city was something we wanted, yet we also wanted to be outside and dance under the stars…Everyone continues to reminisce over our Big Day and they always mention the unique and elegant venue.

The historic nature of this hidden gem is unmatched. That history, and the Cottage’s programming today connecting it to modern struggles for freedom and equality–made it a perfect fit as a place to celebrate our interracial, same-sex, interfaith marriage.

If you’re a history/social justice/civil rights nerd, this is the absolute perfect venue. I was in heaven.

Our big day was the most beautiful and special day I could ever have imagined and that is mainly due to the staff at President Lincoln’s Cottage.

Not only is the venue steeped in meaningful history, it is convenient and beautiful.
