You can now visit President Lincoln’s Cottage earlier on Sundays! Starting July 1, 2011, the Cottage will open to the public at 10:30am with the first tour starting at 11:00am. The site will close at 4:30pm, after the last tour which starts at 3:00pm. Advanced ticket purchase is still strongly recommended, especially on the weekends as we do sell out. As if that weren’t enough, Being Lincoln is being extended! This temporary exhibit will now close on October 2, 2011. Visit the Robert H. Smith Visitor Education Center and find out what it means to truely be like Lincoln. Where else do you have the opportunity to “Lincoln Yourself”? Try it at the site or online – http://www.lincolncottage.org/visit/lincolnyourself/
Our next exhibit will open on October 19, 2011. On loan from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, Abraham Lincoln: A Man of His Time, A Man for All Times will invite visitors to look beyond the myth. More books have been written about Lincoln than any other American, yet public knowledge about our most famous president is dominated by a series of iconic images: the son of an illiterate frontier farmer who taught himself to read; the savior of the Union; the Great Emancipator; the martyred leader. We hope that presenting Lincoln’s own words in speeches, letters and proclamations, will encourage a deeper understanding of the nation’s 16th president’s life, accomplishments and legacy.
