Tip of the Week: USSAH National Cemetery Burial Research

By Erin Carlson Mast

We recently received a question about researching ancestors buried at the United States Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Home National Cemetery, which is very nearby the campus where President Lincoln’s Cottage sits. The USSAH National Cemetery is managed by Arlington National Cemetery under the Department of the Army.  For information on location of a burial, you can go to the Department of Veterans Affairs gravesite locator.  Even though the cemetery is not run by the VA, their gravesite locator includes burials at USSAH National Cemetery in their database.

If you’re looking for additional information about someone buried at the cemetery (military service, for example), you may try researching at the National Archives and Records Administration, which has a special page to assist those trying to research U.S. veterans. http://www.archives.gov/veterans/
