To help answer this question, learn about Lincoln’s historical role in the history of Thanksgiving here. Then take our quiz below, Abraham Lincoln’s Guide to a Successful Family Thanksgiving, which has been slightly updated for 2021. Social Media Spotlight: Reflections on Loss

On Child Loss Awareness Day (October 15th), we launched a social media campaign #ReflectionsonLoss, that connected presidential sites across the country to show the impact that grief has had on history. Two highlights are below. Please view the hashtag on social media to learn more of these important stories.

The death of newborn Patrick Kennedy, when his father John F. Kennedy was in office, saddened the world and gave the public an intimate view of the first family. The JFK Library shared a tumbler post on the “private grief of a public family.”

View the Tumbler.

Mount Vernon shared the loss of a twelve-year-old boy named William in the enslaved community and the story of his mother Kate, a field worker who advocated for herself to become a midwife.

Read more about William and Kate here.
