September 25th: Perfect Liars Club
Four storytellers. Four stories. Three are true. One is a lie. Can you spot the liar? Welcome to Perfect Liars Club—a night of hilarious storytelling, bold lies, and audience sleuthing. At each show, four people take the stage to tell wildly entertaining, hard-to-believe stories. Three are true. One is complete fiction. When the storytelling ends, the interrogation begins: the audience cross-examines the performers, pokes holes in their logic, and hunts for clues. Everyone votes for who they think the liar is—and then braces for the shocking reveal. Since 2013, Perfect Liars Club has outwitted DC audiences, confounded skeptics, exposed overconfidence, and gleefully fooled the city’s know-it-alls. It’s smart, funny, and trickier than it sounds. You’ll leave entertained, suspicious, and probably a little bit humbled. Think you can spot the liar? Come prove it. Bragging rights are on the line.
ABOUT PERFECT LIARS CLUB
Perfect Liars Club is a story interrogation, a storytelling show with a side of shrewd. Four storytellers tell you a story. Three are true, and one is a lie. Listen. Laugh. Interrogate. Vote. And then brace yourself for the shocking truth. Can you spot the liar? The more shrewd of our esteemed and discriminating audience members depart with the smug knowledge that nobody can pull the wool over their eyes. As for the rest of us, well, there is beer.
How did it start? The idea for Perfect Liars Club was born when two Brits came to Washington DC and decided to combine their desire to contribute to the city’s growing indie spoken word scene, and nostalgia for the old game of Spot the Liar. Layla McCay and Roz Campion launched Perfect Liars Club to a sold-out crowd in Washington DC in May 2013. The show has run monthly ever since, selling out fast (sometimes in less than 2 minutes after the tickets going on sale!). Perfect Liars Club went to the Capital Fringe Festival in 2014 and 2016 and again sold out every show and had fantastic reviews. On July1 2015, Layla and Roz announced they were moving away from Washington… and at that point, they handed over the Washington reins, and Perfect Liars Club prepared to become a global phenomenon. Perfect Liars Club in Washington DC is run by Pierce McManus and Cara Foran.
