Historian and leadership scholar Jared Peatman argued that Abraham Lincoln’s intellectual and emotional makeup made him well-suited to lead the nation through the crisis of the Civil War. He examined incidents from Lincoln’s life and the strategies he employed to handle adversity such as humor, optimism, and empathy.
