Untold Stories

After attending the SOS Summit at President Lincoln’s Cottage, Courtney wrote this poem inspired by survivors of modern slavery.

Untold Stories

Have you ever wondered what life would be like if you were trapped?
Trapped in the darkest part of the hour
Crying
Calling
For help that you think will never come
These clothes
These shoes
These corners
Tell stories
Stories like the ones untold because I’m sure that they were all once told not to tell
As they yell looking for an answer
And the pimps with his dancers must say no more
All because they feel like they
Have been broken but continuously used as tokens for their owner self pride
And they ride
Rid deep into the areas of darkness and the shadows of misfortune
And the most unfortunate part is
We live in a world where this all stands as a mystery
But the statistics keep making history
And these kids stories
Are never told
We just hold them to the motion pictures we watch across the screen
And not realize how mean this world can be
As we walk on the grounds of slavery
