Lincoln’s Sanctuary is the most comprehensive book about President Lincoln’s time at the Soldiers’ Home, offering a fresh view of Abraham Lincoln through the lens of his summertime residence. Author Matthew Pinsker tells the story of President Lincoln’s time at the Soldiers’ Home in vivid detail, including his development of the Emancipation Proclamation. Commissioned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and published by Oxford University Press in 2003, royalties from sales of this book go directly to President Lincoln’s Cottage, supporting continued research, preservation, and interpretation of the site.
